Trying Something New: At Home Barre Workout

Categories: Uncategorized

As a Pretty Muddy runner, running was and still is my workout of choice.  When I first started running 10 years ago, I quickly became addicted and only wanted to run.  And so I did that for the next five years until I discovered dumbbells and strength training.

I started with three pound weights and a few Jillian Michaels DVDs.  After noticing never-before-seen changes and improvement in my running, I quickly became hooked.

Fast forward to today.  I still run a few times a week, but I also strength train regularly.  The three pounders I once used have been replaced with 10 and 15 pounders.  Sometimes I even go to the gym and lift heavy things all on my own!  And the knee pain I used to experience on a regular basis is pretty much nonexistent.

So that’s been my routine lately – run, lift heavy things, run, lift heavy things…rinse and repeat.  Until last week that is!

Last week I opted to try a new kind of workout – an online at home barre workout by Fitness Blender!

I never thought I would enjoy barre because it’s based on isolated movements using very light weights.  It was hard to wrap my head around the fact that I was reverting back to my three pounders and swapping full range movements with lots of pulsing.  Honestly, I didn’t think I was going to get a good workout.

But boy was I surprised.  Not only did I challenge my body in a new way, but my arms and legs shook like crazy and I was sore for two days.  That is what I call a great workout!  I have a feeling that this lower intensity workout will help my running improve as well…making me an even stronger Pretty Muddy runner!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my personal fitness journey, it’s that you should never judge a workout by its cover.  Good things come in all different kinds of packages!

I hope you give this workout a try and enjoy it as much as I did!
